. Below is a letter from the administrator of the Superior Men's League to the team captains:
It's embarrassing that I even have to say this to you all but apparently it's gotten out of hand. From this point forward there is to NEVER be allowed to have alcohol on the bench during a game. If a referee sees any alcohol, he is to call the game immediately and issue a forfeit to that team. NO EXCEPTIONS. As well, suspensions will be handed out by myself. With that said, I have played in almost every men's league on Long Island and I feel we have the most FRIENDLY and most competitive league and I have never had a problem with any referee issued for a game at Superior Ice Rink. We are all adults, and when acting like one, and speaking to a referee like one, they're all reasonable to have a normal conversation with. When referees have asked kindly to please remove something, and those actions do not take place, it is completely disrespectful. Also the verbal abuse will not be tolerated as well. We all aren't always going to agree on a call, nor do NHL players, but we receive it as an adult. There is no reason to have to have a grown man come down to ref a game at 10pm on a weeknight night and be cursed at. I believe we all play this game for some exercise and the love of the game. But we all have work the next day and some have a wife and kids to go home to. We don't need stupidity, fights, injuries etc. to have to deal with because we can't act like adults. I hope we all can act like adults moving forward and enjoy a friendly competitive league.

The use of alcohol by players in the rink is strictly prohibited. This includes the parking lot, locker rooms and especially the bench. Any player observed with an alcoholic beverage will be asked to leave. If player refuses the game is over. Send email to LIHO with details.

Playoff Shoot Out Rules
Each team will be given five shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout. After each team has taken five shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a "sudden death" format. No player may shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot. If, however, one team has fewer players eligible for the shootout than its opponent, both teams may select from among the players who have already shot. This procedure would continue until the team with fewer players has again used all eligible shooters.
We have been informed that effective 2/25/2013 Midnight Hockey has changed the rules on highstick fouls. The automatic 4 minute penalty is still in effect for slashing. The new high sticking rule will be will be enforced as follows:
Inadvertent - 2 minutes
Careless or reckless - 4 minutes
Intentional - 5 and a game; possible match if injury results
All other stick fouls carry a 4 minute penalty. The 2 and 5 penalty is gone.
